Fellowship Christian Church’s Ministries and Committees…..
Benevolence – Elder Shirley Wickliffe, Chairperson
The purpose of the Benevolence Committee is to address the physical needs of the congregation and of the community in a loving and compassionate manner as instructed through the Word of God. Galatians 6:10 states, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone and especially to those who are of the household of faith”. (ESV) Applications for assistance may be requested through the office – 913-299-1400 and are forwarded to the committee for consideration and processing. We meet on a situational basis to discuss procedures and process requests.
Bible Study – Rev. Deborah Peterson and Rev. Sheryl Tucker, Study Leaders
Purpose: To study, to equip and to evangelize
II Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
This ministry is an adult bible study, open to church members as well as to the community, seniors, male and female. An in-depth weekly study of different books of the Bible, chapter by chapter are explored using a study guide.
Church Food Pantry – All Ministries and Members
As Christians, we are to feed the poor and help people who are in need. Feeding the needy is part of serving one another and as we serve others, we are serving Christ. Quarterly, the church ministries rotate sponsoring the Food Pantry, select an organization that would benefit from the donations and at the end of the quarter, presents all the food collected to the organization. All members are asked to donate non-perishable food items each quarter in order to support the sponsoring ministry.
Disciples Women’s Ministry – Sis. Joan Carter – President
Motto: “Serve God, Serve the Church and Serve the Community
Mission Statement: To provide opportunity for spiritual growth, enrichment, education and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the church of Jesus Christ. Scripture – “What we have seen and heard, we tell you also so that you will join us in the fellowship that we have with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ”. – I John 1:3
Elders and Diaconates – Elder Ronald Roland, Leader
The purpose of this ministry is to care for the spiritual needs of the congregation offering prayer whether at (church, home, hospital) – (individually or corporately). To visit the sick and shut-in (home, hospital), and to serve communion (church, home, hospital). This ministry serves the entire congregation. Upon joining Fellowship, new members are assigned to the care of one of the Elders and Diaconates. Thus, the Elder or Diaconate assigned becomes that member’s under shepherd. Acts 20:28 – “So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock – His church, purchased with His own blood – over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders”.
Evangelism Ministry Team – Rev. Caroline Calloway, Leader
Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20
Purpose: To implement our church vision, which is to reach souls for Christ. Evangelism is focused on reaching out to families at Fellowship as well as to families within the community. To encourage the entire congregation to actively evangelize as the uniqueness of this ministry, is that the entire membership is a part of the Evangelism Ministry.
Kitchen Committee – Sis. Paula Kemper and Sis. Betty Bowler
The Kitchen Committee works to support all auxiliaries of the church who require food to be prepared and served to members and guests as a part of a worship service or event sponsored by the church body. They also prepare and serve the families of members who have passed and a repast is requested.
Membership Committee – Elder Earline Roland - Chairperson
The purpose of this committee is to cultivate a cooperative and unifying spirit with the church; to plan and administer programs that will encourage member participation and inspire an attitude of volunteerism in areas of the church where services are needed; to help these members feel confident, comfortable and willing to render their services or the good of the whole body; to maintain the closest possible contact with the entire church membership to the end that each member may function effectively in the life of the church; and to develop a spirit of camaraderie and love within the congregation founded on a common love for Christ.
Men’s Bible Study – Elder Van Tucker – Leader
II Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
Purpose: To study and to equip
This ministry is a bible study open to all men of Fellowship Christian Church as well as those in the community. It focuses on the spiritual growth, fellowship, roles and development of the male.
Personnel Committee – Elder Shirley Wickliffe, Chairperson
This committee is comprised of members of Fellowship Christian Church and meets on a situational basis for the purpose of addressing staffing needs, concerns and patterns, employee compensation, and benefits and performance appraisals. The personnel committee also helps to ensure policies, procedures, resources and processes are in place to support church staff. This essential team ensures that the ministry operation is compliant with state and Federal labor laws. The Bible states “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6. It further states that “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
Praise Team – Sis. Lisa Roberson, Director; Bro. Gordon Reed, Musician
Music is a gift and blessing from God. It is a powerful, mood-altering agent. Music is used to praise God, and to create an atmosphere to receive God’s Spirit. Becoming a part of this ministry as well as other ministries involves sacrifice. Psalm 100:1-2 says to, “…make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing.” Those who have committed themselves to the music program here at Fellowship Christian Church realize that sacrifice involves giving of time, energy, and work – in some cases, hard work. This ministry is open to all members who want to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, and who are willing to sacrifice those elements and attend rehearsals and support the church praise team and answer special engagements requests
Sunday school – Elder Rubye Frazier – Superintendent
Our Sunday school lessons for both adults and children (high school) are deeply rooted in the Word of God. II Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth”. Sunday school begins each Sunday at 9:15am unless otherwise noted for special programs and events.
Trustees – Rev. Kevin Nelson – Trustee Chair
The purpose of the Board of Trustees is to manage and oversee church property, maintain the physical appearance of internal and external features of the building and ensure the church is compliant with any legal requirements. I Corinthians 4:1-2 states, “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy” (ESV)
Ushers – Sis. Betty Bowler, President; Sis. Paula Kemper, Vice President
“For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God then dwell in the tents of wickedness” Psalm84:10. The purpose of the Ushers is to welcome saints and visitors into the house of the Lord; to make the worship experience and space inviting and comfortable.
Wellness Program – Health Committee – Sis. Yolonda Johnson, Chairperson
Our bodies are of value to God! He cares not only about our souls, but also about our bodies! I Corinthians 6:19-20. When God created us, He made us physical beings. I Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body”. I Timothy says, “Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness if of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come”. These two verses are a beautiful illustration of the Bible’s balanced view regarding physical and spiritual health. The Health Committee Chair, especially at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic kept the congregation, on a regular basis, aware of statistics, warnings, etc., and continues to do so thru the present.
Women on the Move – Elder Mary Collins – Founder/Co-Sponsor
Elder Earline Roland – Co-Sponsor
Women on the Move, a ministry for women in their 20’s to early 50’s was founded and created to assist those in the throes of stabilizing their lives (early stages of careers, marriage, divorce, parenting, singleness) while attempting to hold on to those basic Christian principles that lead, strengthen, guide and give peace as one goes through life.
Through biblically based studies, prayer and fellowship, Women on the Move has thrived through challenges for the last ten years, and those in membership have grown spiritually enough to know what to do in difficult times, trust in God! These ladies are also sensitive to the needs of the church and the community and have lead food drives, coat drives, and have provided monetary assistance to various organizations in the KCK community in an attempt to help eradicate homelessness and hunger. They remain strong in their spiritual walk and talk!
